A much-loved wallaby at Tapnell Farm Park has sadly passed away after becoming unwell, leaving staff and visitors mourning the loss of a firm favourite.
Bear, who had been part of the Tapnell family for nearly a decade, was put to sleep following veterinary advice after his condition deteriorated.
The popular wallaby arrived at the attraction in 2016 after Seaview Wildlife Encounter closed, with a number of animals rehomed at Tapnell Farm Park.
He quickly became a familiar face to visitors and a cherished member of the animal park.
Lucy, Head Keeper at Tapnell Farm Park, has said:
“Bear is such a firm favourite with many of our visitors, adored by the keepers & team, and hand reared at his previous home by Fern and Tara (who are now part of our team here at Tapnell, with Tara as one of our Head Keepers and Fern as an Animal Keeper), even going home with keepers to be bottle fed and carried around in a backpack!
“He absolutely loves people and belly rubs! And without a doubt anyone who ever fed the wallabies would know of him as he’s always first for the food!”
Bear was known for his friendly nature and close bond with both staff and visitors, bringing joy to many who met him over the years.
Tributes have been paid by the Tapnell team, who say he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
