M&S Foodhall in Cowes is celebrating its 1 year anniversary today (Friday) and is marking the occasion with free tastings during Cowes Week (6th-13th August).
The store officially opened its doors on 5th August 2015 and has proved to be a popular choice for Cowes residents. Since opening, the store has sold over 36,000 sandwiches and prawn mayonnaise is the most popular filling of choice. Residents also have a sweet tooth, with Percy Pigs being the favourite sweets and strawberries and bananas flying off the shelves.
During Cowes Week customers will be able to taste some of the hot sellers from the Spirit of Summer range, giving food for thought on how to put a twist on a barbeque and just in time for those watching the fireworks display on Friday 12th August.
What’s more, fans of Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar will have the chance to meet the characters in person, with special appearances at the store and a selection of sweet giveaways.
In the past 12 months M&s Foodhall in Cowes has sold:
• 2,000 bottles of Prosecco
• 5,500 packets of Percy Pigs
• 12,200 punnets of strawberries
• 36,000 sandwiches
• 46,000 bottles of milk
• 1,400 Gastropub Fish Pies
• 9,300 bananas
David Hancock, Store Manager at M&S Foodhall Cowes, said:
“Cowes Week gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate our first anniversary as a store. We want local customers and visitors to Cowes to have the chance to spice up their picnics, evening meals and barbeques, so our free Spirit of Summer tastings are a great chance to ‘try before you buy’ and pick some favourites from across the popular range.”

M&S Cowes has played an active role in the community and the store team will continue to do so in the coming year. Employees at the store will be putting their efforts into fundraising for their chosen local charity, the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. The palliative care charity, which was chosen by staff for the excellent support it provides to the Island community, will receive funding from the store through staff activities such as a round the Island bike ride, parachute jumps and cake sales.
Customers can support the cause during Cowes Week by purchasing goods from the charity, which will have a team and stand at the store.
