McColl’s on Union Street in Ryde will get a fresh makeover before re-opening as Morrisons Daily later this month.
As previously reported by Island Echo, McColl’s was last year faced with the threat of administration and there were fears that this might lead to redundancies.
However, Morrisons – which already had a wholesale partnership with McColl’s – put a rescue package together and now the shop will be turned into the Isle of Wight’s first ever Morrisons Daily – a convenience store smaller than the traditional supermarkets. Importantly, it has been confirmed that none of the 10 jobs there will be lost and the Post Office will be retained.
McColl’s has been a part of Union Street in Ryde for more than 15 years, taking over what was previously Forbuoys.
The convenience store will close as McColl’s on Wednesday 19th April, remaining closed for 9 days before re-opening on Friday 28th April as Morrisons Daily. It will be the first on the Island but it will join 544 other branches nationwide.

Shame Morrisons couldn’t spend the money repairing the roof on their Newport store instead of buckets placed under all the leaks. Surely all the buckets of stagnant water is a health and safety issue. Newport store needs some investment / modernisation and repair. Think of your customers not your shareholders and invest in what you already have before moving on to other projects.
quite agree not good health and safety for partially sighted customers.
Almost as bad as the missing fridge doors in Lidl, Shanklin. They must be refrigerating the whole shop to keep the food at the right temperature.
Take it the Post Office will be disappearing along with all the other POs on the Island??
