Baby vests, teddies, chocolates, flowers and thermal gloves have all been donated to St Mary’s Hospital, the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Pop-up Soup Kitchen, thanks to the team at Morrisons supermarket in Newport.
Store colleagues Leah Tosdevin and Tracy McNulty took on the role of Santa yesterday (Monday) to deliver a selection of wonderful gifts to those in need and to the well deserving.
The day started with a visit to the children’s ward at St Mary’s Hospital, where Leah and Tracey were warmly welcomed by the staff. The duo were privileged to meet a very poorly little girl, who was given one of the many teddies being donated to the ward. Staff explained how they are usually quite busy between Christmas and the New Year and they were sure the teddies would be a comfort to any poorly little ones in their care. Chocolates were also left for the staff to enjoy.
From there both Leah and Tracey visited the Breast Care Unit, with donations of Christmas floral arrangements for the visitor areas and chocolates for the staff to share.
The next department to receive a donation from the Morrisons team was the Maternity Unit. A selection of beautiful baby vests were left for the first 5 Christmas Day babies that are born, each with a hand written message tied to them. Again, chocolates were left for the staff.
Heading away from St Mary’s, the Santas paid a visit to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice loaded with arms full of goodies. Jackie Whiller, one of the Sisters at the hospice, welcomed the donations of 2 beautiful Christmas floral arrangements for the communal lounges and 2 of the teddies. Boxed chocolates, luxury chocolate fudge yule logs and cheese boards were also donated to be shared over Christmas with patients and their families.
Lastly, a bag of thermal hats and gloves were donated to the Pop Up Soup Kitchen and will be given to the homeless on the Isle of Wight.
