Firefighters were called out to assist a man who arrived at A&E in a pair of handcuffs during the early hours of this morning (Monday) – but he hadn’t been arrested.
Staff at St Mary’s Hospital requested the assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at around 02:30 when it was decided that they couldn’t remove the handcuffs from the patient by themselves.
The full circumstances of why the man was wearing the restraints is unknown, but it is not thought that he had been detained by Police…
UPDATE – Island Echo understands the man had been handcuffed as part of a Stag Do.

What is Charlie saying, I am confused….
WHY DIDNT HE GO TO THE FIRE STATION FIRST ? HOSPITAL HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO DO,
AND DONT HAVE TOOLS TO GET THEM OFF ANYWAY.. —
WHY WAS IT A HOSPITAL DASH ????????????? NOT MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH
Because he was advised to go to A&E as quickly as possible by 111 Fred, who told him the hospital would have cutting equipment to remove it (it was actually just one handcuff). It was a stag do prank and to be fair, it really wasn’t his fault. His mates had gone too far. The cuff had been pulled ridiculously tight and they had somehow managed to ‘lose’ the key. He had virtually no circulation in his hand and it was a pretty serious matter – certainly needing urgent attention.
