Police officers rushed to Ventnor and closed a busy road in both directions amid concerns of a serious incident developing yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) – but the whole situation turned out to be fake.
It was shortly before 15:20 that multiple units descended on the lower section of Gills Cliff Road, closing the residential street between Whitwell Road and Castle Road.
Island Echo is told that Armed Police, with firearms deployed, surrounded a property for a time.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the force was responding to information received, but has refused to confirm the exact nature of the situation.
It has, however, been confirmed that the incident is being treated as false and malicious in nature.
