A 2-mile stretch of the busy A3056 Sandown Road between Arreton and Blackwater is due to be upgraded shortly by Island Roads.
In order to reduce inconvenience, the work on the section between Blackwater Hollow junction and the biomass plant at Gore Basin will be undertaken at night between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00. The road will be closed to traffic between these times.
The project is expected to last 11 nights beginning on Friday 19th August. There will be no weekend working which will also help reduce inconvenience to road users.
The work will see the continuation of Island Roads’ busy summer programme designed to make maximum use of the warmer summer months which are most suitable for schemes of this nature.
Project manager Derek Benfield said:
“The scheme will bring about the required improvement to another significant section of the Island’s strategic road network.
“Obviously work to improve roads of this nature cannot be done without causing some disruption but we hope that undertaking the work at night will keep inconvenience to a minimum and that residents and visitors will welcome the improvement to this busy section.”
