Feline Rescue Isle of Wight is urgently looking for help from the Island Community to help a rescued colony of feral cats and kittens who are currently homeless with nowhere to go.
The charity has been trapping a colony of feral cats and kittens at a waste disposal site on the Island since mid-September. Feline Rescue has removed 22 cats, 9 of which were kittens. The Isle of Wight RSPCA Animal Home in Godshill took 5 of the kittens into their care, 4 of which have now been found homes.
Feline Rescue still has wildlife cameras in place, and this will be the case until there are no cats left at the site.
Nikki Hazelgrove of Isle of Wight Feline Rescue has said:
“It has not been an option for any of the cats to be neutered or spayed, then microchipped and released. It is a far from suitable area to release back to, as there are too many health risks and hazards. It is the survival of the fittest; the ones who perish more often than not will go unnoticed.
“This has been a mammoth task, but we are now at the stage of desperately seeking safe outside homes for the 8 remaining feral cats. Their ages range from 7 months to adult.
“Because they are feral, they are looking for outside homes at private stables or farms (if there are no cats there already). If you feel you can give these cats their life back then do get in touch. Ferals deserve a decent life as do our domestics, but we can’t do this without the help of the Island Community.
“We have been running a Fund Raising Appeal to help us with the Veterinary Costs ~ cat food for this colony – which has raised £1,250, and we would like to thank the Island people very much for supporting us in this way, as well as all the moral support we have received also.”
Feline Welfare is run totally by volunteers, and all money donated goes to benefit Island cats directly. Nikki Hazelgrove ~ the founder ~ has been rescuing both domestic and feral cats since 1980.
Those wishing to help these cats should call Feline Welfare Isle of Wight on 521778 for further details. All cats have been health checked, neutered and microchipped.

What a wonderful person Nikki Hazelgrove is giving her undivided attention not just to cats but to all animals in need of help, if only everyone had her devotion towards animals in need what a wonderful world this would be.
