Island discus thrower Nick Percy has moved one step closer to realising his lifetime dream of competing at the Olympic games. Percy threw a mammoth 67.73m at the Oklahoma Throws Series last month, with his throw not only a new Scottish record – where Percy was born – but an effort that propels him up to 2nd on the UK all-time list. Despite exceeding the Olympic threshold score of 67.20m, to qualify for Team GB and be on the way to Paris 2024, Percy must finish in the top 2 at the UK Championships that are to be held in Manchester this June. As well as training throughout the year, Nick teaches part-time at Ryde School. Throughout his career, Nick has competed at 2 Commonwealth Games, 2 World Athletics Championships and a European Championship. The 29-year-old is a 5-time British Champion. Nick was trained by the well-known Island athletics coach, Ray Scovell and regularly practices at the Fairways Sports Complex in Sandown.
