After 3 weeks of hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the jury in the Scott Cooper murder trial have failed to reach a verdict on whether or not Piers Brazier is guilty of his murder.
12 members of the jury panel have now been dismissed from their duties after failing to agree on an unanimous decision, bringing the trial to an end – without a verdict.
As a result of the ‘hung jury’, Piers Brazier will remain in custody whilst a decision is made on the next steps.
Brazier remains accused of murdering Mr Cooper at an address on George Street, Ryde on the night of 3rd into 4th January this year, but he continues to deny the single charge of murder.
It was just under 6 months ago that the body of Scott Cooper was discovered by Police, prompting the launch of Operation Amaryllis. Forensic investigators spent a staggering 11 days at Flat 3, 74 George Street in a bid to piece together the events that led to Scott’s death.
The whole case has been shrouded in rumour but it has been revealed that a knife was used to stab Mr Cooper several times – including to the face and neck – and that his body was found upside down in the shower.
The Crown Prosecution Service is likely to go for a re-trial at a later date, with the matter set to be discussed later this month.
It is a dramatic end to the first murder trial to be held at the Isle of Wight Crown Court in Sea Street, Newport.

So maybe he didn’t do it ?. Easy to make assumptions, what happened to the others that were arrested ?. Just heard on radio another case where police thought a man took his own life -today though 3 were found guilty of his death and got total of 62yrs !
How hard is it when all the evidence is in front of you??
What a disgusting poor show from the Police investigation team
They have the man the motive and the body with evidence.
Still I guess he IF jailed would be out in months not years so almost irrelevant bothering to take it further
He will prob get away with murder because the police made such a mess from the word go, they attended the property but failed to find the deceased til the next day a second visit etc
so its not looking good on the force and will be a cover up to get them off lightly aswell as him.
Spot on Ted. To accuse him of murder would mean accusing themselves of gross incompetence.
So, fudge evidence to make it foggy and then arrest him on some other charge later down the line.
this is what happens when the police are only fully trained in twitter policing and name calling prevention.
Nothing to do with the police now – CPS prosecute the defendant..
The police here are useless. Plain and simple. Won’t attend vandalism if people are using scaffold to climb up, won’t attend if business properties are smashed up (Ventnor a few nights ago) Get swayed by the council NOT to investigate dodgy fires, (Ventnor again) the list goes on I’m afraid.
They do love a minor car accident or a fire will send several police units and they will all stand around.

This was a single charge for “murder”.
I suspect his defence team has given enough probability for an account of “manslaughter” instead.
As the prosecution didn’t want that on the table in the 1st place and as such gambled on “murder only” then that is why there was no other verdict.
Who knows what really went on in that flat but a quick Google search will tell you that no parties involved were past Saints.
