A boat moored at Newport Harbour has been secured by firefighters and coastguards after it started listing heavily as the tide fell during the night.
It was at around 03:30 this morning (Thursday) that emergency services were mobilised to Newport Quay, after receiving reports that a large vessel was leaning heavily to the port side.
It’s understood that as the tide fell, the boat became unstable and began listing.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team responded to the quay side, soon requesting the assistance of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service in securing the vessel.
There was 1 person on board the boat.
With the boat secured and the area cordoned off, the incident has now been handed over to the harbourmaster.
Separately, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 375 from Lee-on-Solent has been involved in 2 medical evacuations from St Mary’s Hospital helipad this morning.
The helicopter has successfully transferred the poorly patients to the mainland for further treatment.
