Quay Arts is offering 3 Japanese-themed workshops in August inspired by this year’s Olympic host country.
Tutor Kae Carlstedt-Duke (from the Lazy Dog Press) will show participants how to make a traditional Japanese box case ‘Hako Chitsu’, traditionally used to store delicate books and documents.
There is also a chance to slow everything down with a quiet exploration of two Japanese paper decorating techniques; Orizome an age-old Japanese papercraft combining Origami paper folding and coloured pigment dip-dyeing, and Suminagashi ‘Japanese marbling’ where ink floated on water is manipulated by moving air currents to create exquisite patterns.
The third workshop is an introduction to Japanese bookbinding using four classic Japanese sewing techniques.

If they want something Japanese themed, wouldn’t a maid cafe or some anime related thing or maybe a pop up cafe featuring Hello Kitty or Gudetama deserts like in Japan be more likely to attract people?
