Isle of Wight Carers are celebrating after receiving a £3,654 grant from the Comic Relief Fund to purchase 24 slow cookers, as well as provide budgeting and cooking training for an increasing number of carers.
The first group to benefit from the funding will be 8 local male primary carers. As well receiving training on how to cook, IT Training will be given using state of the art tablets to enable carers to access information and additional support.
A special ‘launch lunch’ was held at The Riverside Centre in Newport on Thursday, attended by Isle of Wight Council Executive member for Adult social care and public health, Cllr Richard Priest.
Project Manager Julie Cocker said:
“We are delighted to receive this grant and provide much needed help and equipment to carers, carers who provide much needed daily support to their loved ones.
“All carers will receive some cooking sessions, a shared meal and a slow cooker to take home and practice their new skills. We are also lucky to have a male carer who is a trained chef who has agreed to be part of the training sessions and share his skills with fellow carers”.
