The Isle of Wight Gardens Trust has announced a new Garden History Detectives project which will explore marine villa designed landscapes.
The Trust is seeking volunteers to investigate the designed landscapes of historically significant marine villas on the Island. Such places are nationally scarce but numerous fine examples exist on the Island and volunteers will get the chance to visit some of them, many of which are not normally open to the public.
Volunteers will also learn how to use documentary and online sources such as historic maps, photographs and illustrations for research into these historic gardens which will then become a final publication and volunteers will be entitled to a free copy.
The project will launch on Saturday 13th May at Brading Roman Villa where prospective volunteers can find out more and where tea and coffee will be provided.
Attendance is free but it is essential to book by April 30th which can be done here and Garden History Detectives will need to become members of the Isle of Wight Gardens Trust.
