Organisers of the annual Isle of Wight Day have announced that this year’s events won’t be happening due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Islanders are still being encouraged to put up bunting.
This weekend (19th/20th September) would have been the 5th anniversary of Isle of Wight Day. Whilst there are no events taking place, the team would love to keep Isle of Wight Day alive and in the forefront of people’s minds, to celebrate all that we love about the Island and spread some joy this weekend.
Islanders are being encouraged to deck out their homes and gardens with bunting and take part in a ‘Best Dressed’ competition, in partnership with English Heritage and Caffe Isola.
To enter, send a photo of your property to [email protected] or alternatively use Facebook or Instagram and tag @isleofwightday to be entered into a draw to win either a Meal for 4 at Caffe Isola or a family admission ticket into Osborne House.
All entries must be sent in by Tuesday 22nd September for the winner to be announced on Wednesday 23rd.

Don’t put out the bunting. There is little to ‘celebrate’ with more catching c.v, businesses likely to drop like flies this long Winter and Spring coming, and more of the mainland’s rejects replacing genteel wildlife, birds, butterflies and wildflower for concrete boxes filled with many unpleasant beings thanks to our wonderful Council and puppet MP lack of action.
Keep the bunting in the box until we do have something to celebrate, it may be in there a very long while though.
The countryside around me is being ripped up, dug up and built on, destroying the wildlife and once beautiful scenery that used to surround where I live. Is this what we’re celebrating? Perhaps I should put up my bunting on the diggers and rubble?
Maybe keep the bunting until a day occurs when there is not one single car over turning here?
