An Isle of Wight-based cycling coach is 1 of 23 people from across the country to have been awarded a national cycling coaching scholarship.
The scheme, backed by British Cycling and Total Computers aims to develop the next generation of top coaches that will work with Olympians and cycling stars of the future.
Joe Staunton, the Isle of Wight’s top-ranked road cyclist and Talented Athlete who has this year raced for the Isle of Wight-based team Wightlink-WightMountain CRT, started his own performance cycling company, Ceyreste Performance, during the COVID-19 lockdown and went full time this year.
Joe said:
“This is a really exciting opportunity, it has always been a career aspiration of mine to work with some of the best athletes in the world and this scholarship will give me the opportunity to do so”.
The scheme gives scholars access to free educational material, a personalised development programme, mentoring from an expert and coaching opportunities with the Great Britain cycling team.
The scholarship kicks off in January with a 2-day event at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
