The Island’s Central convenience stores look set to remain open as a result of a last minute £7million deal to purchase the retail division of parent company, Conviviality.
As previously reported by Island Echo, 12 stores across the Isle of Wight and even more nationally have been at risk of closing following the collapse of Conviviality last month.
Administrators were appointed yesterday (Thursday) bringing doom and gloom to staff and customers alike, but one of the country’s biggest food wholesalers, Bestway, has stepped in with a £7million purchase deal to rescue the failing company’s retail arm.
Central was purchased by Conviviality-owned Bargain Booze in December last year. The deal came just 12 months after the Hunnyhill Group sold 12 Spar-branded shops to Central.
