Islanders are being warned by a local mechanic about thieves targeting catalytic converters after crooks attempted to steal 1 from a doctor’s car this morning (Thursday).
RBS Autos – a mobile mechanic – was called out to Lugley Street car park in Newport earlier today, after thieves attempted to steal the cat from a Toyota Prius – owned by a local doctor from St Mary’s Hospital.
As a result of the incident, the company is urging people across the Island to watch out and remain vigilant.
This kind of incident made the news back in August when vehicles in Ventnor, as well as Newport, were targeted, whilst vehicles on the forecourt of Ashey Road Garage were also the victim of the crime back in June.
Catalytic converters are devices fitted to vehicle exhausts to reduce the number of dangerous gases emitted. They are often targeted by thieves as they contain valuable metals and can be removed in less than a minute.
Hybrid vehicles are most commonly targeted, as their metals are more valuable, but any vehicle can be at risk of catalytic converter theft.

They want their fingers chopping off that will stop their thieving.
Someone must be giving them money for the stolen cats.
Yep, I doubt if its common in Saudi Arabia.
.
There are actually companies on the mainland advertising for unwanted CCs. It’s unbelievable!
Convert it to electric, connect it to the mains
Castration for catalyst theft without any pain killer.
Absolute morons.
Got to be someone’s fetish.
You mean, they found a doctor!
Shame it wasn’t the Egyptian Saville copy cats car.
Watch out for the Albanian’s there out in force on the island carrying out these audacious crimes.
Stealing handbags up the hospital too!
What next, another murder no doubt.
Albanians they’re out in force
Yep, millions and their all on the island for a winter holiday
Relax, the cctv will have filmed the culprits….won’t it? Or is it too busy looking for parking infringements, or is it just not looking?
Can be removed in less than a minute ???
Good job I don’t have one then
We both lost ours last year in Bournemouth – Police caught Albanian gang but I ended up having to pay for the damage on my car. They really mangled it. Insurance companies vary!
