The first episode of a new show on Channel 5 following 3 groups of holidaymakers on a week-long cruise including a family from the Isle of Wight has just aired.
The show, entitled ‘The Cruise: Fun Loving Brits at Sea’, sees the 3 groups of holidaymakers embark on the ‘Regal Princess’ Cruise Ship as they sail around the Mediterranean for a week.
The Walker-Green family, who are from the Island, star in the new series and the first episode – which aired earlier today (Monday) – shows them in Rome where kids Noah and Maisie enjoy a trip to an Ancient Roman battle camp where they get to learn what it takes to be a gladiator.
In the programme, Noah says:
“It was just amazing. Much better than being in school!”
His father, Rob Walker-Green told Island Echo:
“We had such an amazing time visiting all of the different locations. As vegans and avid travellers we love cruising and learning about various places and cultures.
“Our children were able to experience many amazing activities…attending gladiator school in Rome was a total blast, creating amazing, long-lasting memories.
“[My wife] Katie applied to an advert online asking for people that would enjoy a cruise to the Mediterranean – we were so lucky to be chosen!”
The first episode can be viewed now on My5 and the next 4 episodes will be shown over the next 4 days at 16:00.

As vegans and avid travellers. You carry on burning that fuel. The only things that will be roaming this planet will be animals.
The word “privaliged” springs to mind. Obviously not your average island family – even their kids names smack of “posh money”!
I agree the name walker-green says it all. Obviously not your average down to earth family, they obviously live the high life… what it is to have money
Shame you can’t spell the word that you so unfairly want to use.
Privileged. My bad, bloody autocorrect!
However, it’s probably cheaper than our ferry crossings.
Vegans and avid cruise fans. Wow! What a healthy combination. Maybe that’s like being a vegetarian hunter. ‘I kill lots of animals but would never eat one.’
Your addled-brain comment makes no sense at all. Being vegans and “cruise fans” are not mutually exclusive.
Jimmy, of course they are not mutually exclusive and that is a fair and valid point. I’m assuming, maybe wrongly that their veganism is from an animal friendly, welfare perspective. Maybe not. Maybe for health reasons. Either way the negative environmental impact of cruise ships is well studied and much reported on. It’s not for me to say either way. I’m not brain addled, I like to think I’m reasonably well balanced in thought and deed.
It just seems to me that there’s a degree of self-righteousness or if not, it’s a bit tawdry. In times such as these, environmentally and economically a bit less smuggery would be better. On their part, not yours. Bests.
You could pass the same judgement on anyone who drives a car, or puts the heating on, or cooks a meal with gas, or uses a laptop made in China, or eats an avocado grown in Spain, or wears a jacket made in Turkey, etc… We all know that climate change is real (even those who pretend to deny it) but governments are not prepared to make changes or advise on choices on reducing/limiting further damage. And it is hard to swallow when we all know that China, India, and the USA are not prepared to do anything to reduce emissions until it is too late. Obviously, the best solution is the deletion of all humans but none of us will agree to that, so what choices are good choices? We might as well give up and go on a cruise and fiddle while Rome burns
“As vegans” which in no way, shape or form has anything to do with the programme or the cruise, tells you the kind of mentality that goes with people who are full of self importance.
Maybe they go on cruises to let the world see them?
Still has nothing to do with what they eat, so why bring it up? maybe they think saying we are vegan shows the world that they care about woke topics and are a great role model for the kids, who like the parents are probably vitamin b12 deficient because they don’t get enough vitamins from the food they consume. Great parenting skills lol.
Self important indeed!
Maybe they go on cruises to let the world see them?
I was expecting a day ticket for Red Funnel, back & forth over the Solent. Be good enough for lots of us but with no ‘self-entitled and indulgent’ TV programme!
“[My wife] Katie applied to an advert online asking for people that would enjoy a cruise to the Mediterranean – we were so lucky to be chosen!”
We are not so lucky though to have your smugness inflicted upon us.
I would like to see Channel 5 do an alternative to the recent Alan Titmarsh show.
Showing Sandown in all its glory, all the derelict buildings etc.
50p to use the toilets nr the Sundial Cafe in Sandown and no runnimg water is in the toilet.
People on Sandown Pier taking drugs etc etc
Also walked past 2 young ladies along Sandown High Street vaping and one was
Cannabis
Also expose the extortionate Ferry Fares.
Does it also show, them talking down to crew, rudeness, complaining about the toilet paper being folded into a triangle, the sheets being to starched, no thought not. Toffs plain and simple. Self entitled in the extreme.
There is nothing “posh” about going on a cruise these days. Ships full of scumbags trying to eat and drink as much of the all inclusive as possible while their horrific spawn run riot making everyone else’s life hell. In fact, cruise ships are a taste of what hell will soon be like for the majority.
Sorry to say but this is the worst cruise program we have ever watched. Narrator & featured families & friends are truly awful & very wooden with no personalities. We switched off after the third one.
