2 young Isle of Wight videographers known as Double or Nothing Productions (DON productions) are fighting nationally in efforts to win a MOBO award.
The MOBO Awards are an annual British music award presentation honouring achievement in ‘music of black origin’.
The team consisting of Jack Millward and Tom Kral, directed, filmed and edited the highly awarded “CAN’T BE US” by famous UK rapper HEADIE ONE.
Commenting on their story, the pair have said:
“In 2019, after leaving education and keen to figure out the next stage of our lives, we entered a short film competition hosted by Ventnor Exchange. To our surprise, we won! This kicked us into gear, and we started to take filmmaking seriously, investing the prize money into a new camera.
“From there we took any work we could get, working with friends and local businesses to build our portfolio, slowly but steadily growing our brand, improving our skills and upgrading our kit. Our first big opportunities were through beach soccer, for the IOW and the England squad. This relationship allowed us to make connections in London which we worked hard to build, travelling to and from London 2 to 3 times a week, often for unpaid work.
“We began to specialise more and more into music videos, working our way up from unknown artists releasing their first songs to some of the biggest rap artists in the U.K. Over the past year we have filmed music videos at home and abroad, with a video we filmed for a group of artists from Tottenham particularly gaining attention, ultimately being nominated for a MOBO. We are battling against 5 other videos, but we have a chance to bring it home for the island. It would mean the world to us if you could spare 2 minutes and vote for us. The category is ‘MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR’ and the project is ‘Headie One Ft. Abra Cadabra, Bandokay – Can’t Be Us’. Thank you in advance.”
The Ex-Ryde natives are asking for the Island’s help to win this once-in-a-lifetime award, with voting closing on 28th November. You can vote here.
