Freshwater Parish Council’s plans to build a new skatepark and pump track have now moved to the next stage.
The current Freshwater skatepark is coming to the end of its life with repairs and upkeep becoming increasingly costly. The skatepark has served its purpose and has always been popular, but its design and location doesn’t fit with current thinking.
Last year a proposal was put together to build something that has a long life, is sympathetic in design to its surroundings, is an asset to the community and is something for all riders and ages to enjoy.
1 tender application was received from Gravity Engineering Ltd and it has been agreed by the Parish Council to accept the tender.
To move the project forward, initial designs have now been released for public consultation.
Freshwater Parish Council is asking local riders to get in touch and let them know their thoughts so a final design can be agreed.
There will be further consultation with residents and site visits for councillors (and some local riders) to other parks built by Gravity, as well as design adaptation to meet the requirements of local riders, meeting with the Gravity designers and securing the required funding.
Freshwater Parish Council is investing £120,000 into the project with all avenues of community fundraising being explored to try and match the funding from the Parish. The Parish Council is also looking at grants, sponsorship and advertising.

Looks excellent and a well needed addition for the Islands skate community. Message to Local Councillors – Please stick with Gravity or a similar specialist company and don’t fall for the oft-trodden path of giving the tender to some local contractor just because they reckon they can do it for less. The UK is littered with penny pinching “disasters”. No pun intended!
I’ve been lobbying for a maverick park in ryde..great to see Freshwater getting a park, well done Paul and all those involved..
It may be an idea to have security cameras incorporated in the design to deter vandals.
design and location doesn’t fit with current thinking.
Freshwater Parish Council is investing £120,000 into the project
meanwhile the council plead poverty and talk of cuts and increases in council tax
my pay doesn’t fit with my current thinking, so no – cut this wasteful project and cut the demand on the taxpaying resident who needs the money for food.
there used to be a really good skate bowl up golden hill in the 80’s..as kids the council supplied swings and slides and open space to play, whats your problem? kids have nothing to do outside these days, moaning ninnys complaining because they are bored… open the curtains and take a deep breath as you were a kid once.
Perhaps this new project will stop the little bad*ards causing trouble in Freshwater?
I think this is great and as a skater from the 80’s I wish we had this when we were kids, my 11 year old son cannot wait!
