3 independent lifeboat stations from across the Isle of Wight have been out in force today (Friday) for the annual ‘Go Orange Day’, raising vital funds for the life-saving charities.
Ryde Inshore Rescue, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and Freshwater Independent Lifeboat have been out and about seeking not only funds to keep the services afloat, but to raise awareness within the local community about the work of the volunteer-led organisations.
Each station is funded solely by public donations and grants. It is this money that keeps the lifeboat ready to launch at a moment’s notice 365 days a year.
The team from Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) have been at Morrisons in Lake and at Regent Street in Shanklin. They’ve also paid a visit to Broadlea Primary School for a water balloon throwing with the students! St Catherine’s School in Ventnor have raised £85 by holding a mufti day.
Meanwhile in Ryde, Ryde Inshore Rescue have been down at Hovertravel and up in the town shaking their buckets and spreading the word of the local lifeboat service.
You can expect to see lifeboat crews in and around their local towns over the weekend. Freshwater Lifeboat are holding a meal and quiz at The Freshwater Coffee House tomorrow evening.
