The Isle of Wight Council has announced that a hydraulic leak has forced the suspension of the Floating Bridge service today (Sunday).
An issue with the South West ram on the vessel will see the service suspended until at least Monday morning as engineers work to rectify the problem.
The Council says that a replacement service for foot passengers is now in operation.

No words anymore just nothing.
Why don’t they just fix it? As good as new.
Is there anything left to said?
And in other news, Mr Smith from Sandown opened his gate this morning.
… And he has now just shut it again…. Yawn
SERIOUSLY… this thing needs to be SCRAPPED. Total waste of money. This thing is haemorrhaging Council Tax payers money. Enough is enough. The design engineers should reimburse the IOW Council surely. This thing is not fit for purpose.
It would surprise me if it ever was fit for purpose. I been seeing the news about this contraption nearly every day. think the only time I don’t see news about this barge is when it is getting repaired, or is it staff taking the day off to save embarrassment?!!
What a laughing stock the Isle of Wight must appear to be. Ferries cancelled causing traffic chaos on both sides of the water and a floating bridge that is off more times than it is on. Why would holiday makers want to come here to be stuck in traffic for hours on end. Come on Bob Seely take control and get it sorted.
Surprise Surprise here we go again …..
Is it not possible to find an engineer that actually knows what they are doing ?‽???? Obviously not …….
Best thing for this non floating piece of c–‘ is to put it out of it’s / and our misery ……
Come on New councillors show us what you are made of …
Or are we going to whinge you inherited this heap of junk …
Meanwhile I will be having eggs and BACON !!!!!!!!!
The Elephant in the room is that those trying to fix these issues know the hydraulic system fitted is not up to the task. It wasn’t even designed to do the job.
.
The independent consultants the council employed to investigate the issue informed the council and they have known for almost a year that this is the case .
When they ( routinely) change the hydraulic fluid and it comes out looking like glitter….. that means excessive metal wear.
18 months tops before its scrapped
Starting next month the IW Council floating bridge lottery. You have to try to pick 6 days when it will not be out of action at some point. Void if (when) there are not 6 qualifying days.
Just show’s we do not have the quality of engineers on the island to fix this problem again again and again.
That comment, ron is completely uncalled for. We have some highly skilled engineers on the Island. Regrettably the chaps trying to fix the floating bridge can only work with what they have got, which is not suitable for the job. they can only patch it up. It is not within their power to upgrade the hydraulic system, that is for the council to decide. Of course, the whole thing should be replaced.
Presumably the “engineers” (= mechanics) have to be supplied by the original shipyard under warranty. Of course, they can’t be expected to work or even travel on the Sabbath.
I look forward to the new Administration finally throwing some light on this fiasco, although I fear they, too, will find their hands tied by m’learned friends.
Cannot be much good if just patching it up.Why not just say we cannot do it.
Because the people in charge have not got the bollox!
