Sovereign Housing Association has put £4,605 towards funding free places at summer holiday activities for children on the Isle of Wight.
The funding provides an extra 21 spaces on the sessions being run by CM Sports and Nine Acres Primary School. Activities range from go-karting, arts, crafts, and remote control car driving.
Amy Houghton, Community Development Officer for Sovereign, coordinated the grants programme. She said:
“We understand that the summer can be a difficult time for some families, which is why we’re funding places on these programmes. We want the children in our communities to enjoy enriching activities and grow in confidence alongside their friends.”
Nick Evans from CM Sports added:
“The additional funding Sovereign has given us has allowed us to expand the number of free spaces we can offer.
“We are also delighted to be a part of the Isle of Wight local authority’s HAF project, being able to support children on the island with fun holiday activities and making sure they receive a nutritious hot lunch whilst they are with us.”
Amy concluded:
“All of the courses being run also come with lunch provided. Research from The Food Foundation, spear-headed by Marcus Rashford, showed that, in September 2020, including 2.3 million children were in families reporting food insecurity, with the data also revealing that 12% of adults living with children were skipping meals because they could not afford or access food. We’re pleased to be able to make a difference in our communities.”

Why are they wasting taxpayers money on this – since when did it become ok for us to be busting a gut, working all the hours, only for tax to be taken and then given to dossers kids to go karting.
this is sickening – these damned hand wringing do gooders need removing.
providing housing is one thing – funding their damned social lives is another – sort it out and stop bragging about wasting taxpayers cash on leisure activities for the kids of dossers.
If they’re going to be giving them things to do they consider ‘fun’, let’s hope they teach them some manners too, how to exhibit some good behaviour, instead of making lots of noise and shouting, no matter who might be disturbed or upset by it, and to not throw their rubbish everywhere but to have respect for the countryside and any greenery growing somewhere without just seeing it as a receptacle to throw their cans etc, into.
