Gritters will be out and about across the Island this evening for the first time in 2023 following a weather warning that has been issued for black ice.
Forecasted low temperatures have seen Island Roads make the decision to treat the main routes at 19:00.
A secondary top-up will take place tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 05:00.
The decision follows the weather warning for black ice that was issued by local forecaster IW Met Service.
Island Roads has advised drivers to drive according to the weather conditions.

90% of the accidents are caused by lack of road sense.
When yhe grit is all used what then?
You’ve got the haters all roused up!
You are right.
A good knowledge of car control, and driving to the conditions, and driving at 20 mph won’t save you if you don’t know how to control your car!
Maybe the gully clearing lorry should been out prior to gritting as a huge amount of water on road at osborne all gullies blocked as you can see water running over the top up to gkn if this lot freezes there will be mayhem
This is not the only area flooding due to poor gully management Briddlesford Road another, and that just what I seen today, good old island roads ,,,,again and again and again
The roads were abysmal this morning. How about the drains are cleared of leaves and debris and ditching is undertaken? The land can’t take anymore and has nowhere to drain to!
Welcome back Spreadie Mercury!
