The cost of diesel on the Isle of Wight has dropped dramatically – by as much as 50p per litre – meaning the price of filling up an average family car is comfortably back under £100.
Today (Friday), Tesco in Ryde – thought to be the busiest petrol station on the Isle of Wight – was selling diesel at ‘just’ 147.9p per litre. Petrol is now just 5p a litre cheaper at 142.9.
This means that to fill an average family-sized tank of 55 litres now costs £81.35. Compared to last year when the price of diesel was a whopping 197.9p per litre, that is a saving of £27.50 – or almost 25%.
However, this is still significantly more than in May 2020 when fuel prices were at their lowest point since 2016. The average price of diesel back then was 114.6p per litre.
Motorists will be wanting to see the totum price drop further in the coming weeks but will be glad that it isn’t now knocking on the door of £2 a litre.

What is the point of trying to make everyone ride stupid cycles in a country like this where it is more often wet, cold, windy, and a combo of all three.
Most of us workers need to take food, equipment and run other errands on our trip to work.
Imagine all your work gear soaked, along with yourself, whilst some over paid councillor or other ‘essential’ car divers swishes past you.
Fools can’t see the plebs are being ‘used’ via the green agenda to make more room on the roads for those who ‘sell us’ the story, yet fail to abide by it themselves as they drive huge cars, live in massive fully heated homes, and have hot tubs, and more lighting wattage in their garage than most do in their tiny homes.
SEE this for what it is.
Wrong article? 😛
Keep driving a car and paying for petrol to BP and other giant corps and their CEOs, nobody can stop you. Heck, you can mail them your money directly via post.
Bad news for the planet, but who cars, I’ll be dead soon, it’s the kids problem hehe
Let’s hope it’s quick for you then!!
I remember when ASDA first opened it was one pound and eight pence per liter
