An East Cowes resident is fundraising to help buy those who are most vulnerable in the town a Christmas dinner for themselves and their family.
Jane Allchorn, who helps run a community group from the Parkside Pavillion on Vectis Road called Community Spirited Café, has even dyed her hair green to help the ongoing efforts.
The plan, if enough money is raised, is to give each of the 113 families a supermarket gift card which in turn will enable them to head to the shops and buy everything needed for a Christmas dinner.
Jane and the team at the Pavillion have already raised vital funds for families in need over the course of the year helping some escape the cold winter weather by buying them thermals and giving out slow cookers and hand blenders so they can enjoy a warm and nutritious meal.
If you would like to help Jane and donate, head over to her gofundme page to do so.
Jane has said:
“I really want to give a £30 supermarket gift card to every family.”
“If anyone wishes to help a local family this Christmas please consider donating please.”

Nice but naive. Alcohol will be where most will squander her kindness.
Best use cash to pay for a cafe to do a Christmas dinner imo
So I am OUT
Have to agree, we are funding all this lot all year. You can’t tell me they are spending the thousands given on essentials. IF you are on a low income you don’t pay any rent or council tax, or very little. Nor do you have to save money for a boiler, house insurance, repairs etc.
Nor do they pay for school dinners, or uniforms or school trips.
Nor do they have to pay for dentists and prescriptions.
So don’t give me all this rubbish ‘they can’t afford a Christmas dinner’ rubbish.
IF they can’t its because they have blown it on themselves on tarting themselves up, latest phone to show off their nails and spray tan, and massive tv’s and often drugs.
So as their kids are bought up like that, then they will be the ones mugging.
Thank you so much for your donations, we will make sure it goes to our families who are struggling.
For the people who have commented negatively, please come to parkside Pavilion where we have been running the first community food pantry to open on the island.
Families are not just those on benefits, many are employed and self employed and are referred to as the working poor.
We work really hard to make a difference to our local community. We see tears of desperation as they are scared about using the heating.
I will continue to do what I can for our East Cowes community as I have been doing for 15 years.
Please come and see what we do and please consider donating to our appeal if you haven’t already❤️❌ happy Christmas
