Firefighters from Newport and Cowes were called to tackle a house fire in the Island’s county town earlier this evening (Sunday).
It was at 19:00 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a fire developing at a residential address on Hunnyhill, Newport.
3 appliances were mobilised, with crews arriving to discover a fire located in a ground-floor front room.
Firefighters used hose reels and jets to extinguish the fire, while ventilation fans were deployed to clear smoke from the property.
Following the incident, firefighters carried out a number of home fire safety visits at neighbouring properties before returning to station shortly before 20:00.
Police closed Hunnyhill in both directions for a time, but the road has since reopened.
