Fears of a fire at Ryde School this evening (Tuesday) saw fire crews from Newport, Ryde and Sandown called to the seaside town. Several appliances – including the Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport – rushed to the educational facility on Queen’s Road at around 17:15. Island Echo readers said they had seen smoke drifting into the air but after investigations were carried out, it was instead deemed that the smoke was coming from a controlled burn at a neighbouring property. Resources from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – which included an Operational Commander – were also called to the scene. All appliances stood down from the incident once the stop message was received shortly after 18:00.

So there was no fire at the school. Why post it then??
It’s posted because the fire service would report on the opening of an envelope. If Ambulance and Police reported every job they did, you’d never have time to read them all. Ambulance and Police get more jobs in a day than Fire get in a month.
The proper procedure was followed. This school includes Boarding Houses, occupied by children, so safety comes first.
One wouldn’t expect any less from our emergency services.
