Dash and Splash, an unusual charity run between Shanklin and Yaverland, returns to The Bay on Saturday 30th July, raising vital funds for the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
Runners are set to negotiate 44 groynes over a distance 5000 metres, most of which can be passed through on hard sand. However, runners will have to round 15 of the groynes into the surf – hence the ‘splash’.
The run is presented by the Shanklin and Sandown Rotary Clubs, raising funds for the local Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
2015 saw the inaugural running of the event, which was deemed a great success.
Run organiser Frederick Fisher said that the feedback from last years run, combined with the enormous interest on the Dash and Splash’s social media, should mean that the run should be bigger than last year. Already online registrations are up 30% from the same time last year.
Shanklin Town Brass band will be at the start of the event at what was Shanklin Pier, with FAT Samba performing at the half way mark at Sandown.
The run will begin at 14:45 at the old Shanklin Pier head on Saturday 30th July.
