Parents of children at St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School in Carisbrooke have been alerted to a single case of COVID-19 within the school community.
In an email sent out this afternoon (Saturday), it has been confirmed that 1 person has tested positive for coronavirus and as a result a ‘small number’ of children must now stay at home for 14 days.
The school say that although this may be concerning for some parents, the management team are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.
St Thomas of Canterbury remains open as normal for all other pupils.
Parents are being reassured that for most people COVID-19 is a mild illness.
Meanwhile, over in Arreton, pupils in Year 1 and 4 members of staff are self-isolating after a confirmed case at Arreton Primary School yesterday (Friday).

ALL Island schools will be shut within next two weeks. Watch and see.
council shouldn’t wait two weeks, they should do it now!!!
No one gives a toss about this second lockdown. More people out and about than ever. And rightly so.
Rightly so, how?
All these doom mongers voting you down probably packed out the beaches during the summer and now the sun has gone down, they panic.
I bet most of them are panic shoppers that don’t give a toss for anyone but themselves, the sort of people that get there education from the brain washing mainstream media,
Sad but very True…
All school age children should have gone into lockdown when they broke up for the 2 week half term. Add on 4 weeks, 6 weeks would have prevented spread of COVID which takes them up to 2nd December. The pubs surely cannot open again on the 2nd, It will all start over again and this 4 week lockdown will be a complete waste if time
They wouldn’t do it then , because the tourists were too important.
Do you contribute anything too the island economy? Do you work for a living at all??
Yes I do actually, it would have made more sense to lockdown over half term and 2 weeks more. The way we are going at the moment, we’ll be lucky if we’re not in tier 3 on December 3rd .
Contribute too???? Do you go too work? Or do you read the daily mail too much? I think you mean contribute anything to the island… Donut
I do work, I’m self employed and I definitely don’t read the snowflake rags, infact I don’t buy any mainstream rags.
As for donuts, I never eat them however, enjoy if it’s what you like.
I think far left loosers like yourself were born loosers, and always will be loosers.
I think you mean losers, l hope your job doesn’t rely on your spelling being correct.
How come the echo isn’t reporting on the highest daily cases on the island. 42 cases recorded today? This increase takes the islands monthly total passed the entire amount from October in just 14 days.
November’s monthly total is going to be very high despite a mock down.
Over 15 schools already affected as well, stay safe everyone
Bloody dume mongers, there’s a much bigger problem with island so called drivers than we have with Covid…
Dume mongers? Do you mean doom mongers? Keep up
Inevitable as with all schools, I wish the staff and pupils well at this fantastic school.
If kids are part of various bubbles at school, to limit spread of the virus, then why do parents let their children go to activities outside of school? If they meet with other children from other classes and schools it defeats the object doesn’t it?
