A busy Newport footpath has been resurfaced to the relief of local residents, hundreds of school children and dog-walkers after 2 councillors backed calls for action to sort out the ‘swamp’ that they said it had become.
The Purdy Road footpath has been resurfaced by contractors for the Isle of Wight Council after Councillors John Hobart (Carisbrooke Ward) and Chris Whitehouse (Newport West Ward) encouraged Council officers to tackle the problem of ankle deep mud.
Cllr Chris Whitehouse has said:
“After heavy rain, the Purdy Road footpath became a real swamp. Many hundreds of school children, local residents and dog-walkers use the path every day and they were frankly fed up of its deplorable state.
“I’m delighted that we have been able to deliver a complete resurfacing of the path with tarmac. Those who use it are really pleased with the result.”
