The fate of parking restrictions on 2 roads in Ventnor could be decided next week following further investigations into the restrictions after the initial decision was delayed in February.
It was proposed that parking restrictions would be introduced on part of Albert Street and Park Avenue but numerous strong objections halted the final go-ahead.
They could now be approved, introducing a loading-only and limited-waiting place and double yellow lines with cabinet member for highways and infrastructure Councillor Phil Jordan to make a decision on 9th May.
On Albert Street, it is still proposed to introduce a 2-hour loading-only restriction, followed by a limited 1-hour waiting period between 10:00 and 18:00 during the summer season. The Council says it has been requested by the nearby Ventnor Medical Practice so their delivery vehicles can park close by. There were nearly 50 objections against this proposal when it was first introduced, with 23 in favour.
Meanwhile, double yellow lines are proposed on Park Avenue, over the entrance to Fernleigh Apartments, to save it from being obstructed. The Council’s aim, it says, is to increase visibility and improve safety by removing parking close to the entrance. It would also create a passing point and improve the traffic flow, it said. Overall, the authority received 52 objections over the proposals and 31 in favour.
Among concerns were the loss of on-street parking but the authority says priority has been given to road safety and the movement of traffic over the preservation of parking spaces. It says the extent of restrictions was kept to a minimum to keep as much parking as possible.

People pay for tickets or permits to park in carparks because they can’t get a space on the road, carparks are full up. Bloody soul destroying driving round and round looking for a space. Who’s pockets and wallets getting fat?!!
Who runs the Island – The Council or the Peasants.
If lines are required just lay them, safety is imperative.
Whilst at it install parking meters islandwide and use the revenue raised to
reduce annual council tax for everyone.
Have you been out lately dear? The island has some the highest parking charges in the south coast, and machines or restrictions on basically every street. Was in Poole on weekend and every town centre car park or street parking was free, the place was having, shops busy, no empty units. Hmm?
I am not talking about seafront parking charges or carpark charges.
We need permit parking so households who clog the streets with numerous
vehicles, some that should not even be on the road due to having no MOT
taking away parking space for families who want to park their vehicle when they return
home from an hards days work.
Why they cannot admit its all about revenue generation not safety
Good bus service in Ventnor opportunity to reduce cars per household
Too many households own too many vehicles.
Council Tax should be based on the number of vehicles an Household own.
The excuse of “public safety” is always trotted out when there are objections to parking restrictions but the reduction in safety due to to those restrictions forcing drivers to circle looking for a parking space is conveniently ignored. (And no, not everyone has the luxury of being able to use a bike, bus or walk.)
Try and park down Great Preston Road Ryde
so many Fcukers line the road with vehicles with NO MOT
No Law and Order on the Island.
Contact the authorities then. I do . Put a large poster on car saying Illegal Vehicle authorities informed. . I have a 100% success sometimes a bit slow but end result good.
Who are the authorities?
Council are Useless and so are the Law.
That is why the vehicle in question will stayed parked along Great Preston Road
forever.
Why we pay Council tax I have no idea.
I agree. Maybe solution is to demolish half of the houses in Ventnor and build a big parking? Problem solved.
And if cars keep getting bigger like in US, we can just demolish the other half.
After all, the most important part of any British town is parking space. People don’t matter, cars do.
Does anybody still visit Ventnor these day? I certainly don’t.
