HM Coastguard are investigating the discoveries of 2 separate pieces of suspected ordnance in Seaview and East Cowes this lunchtime (Friday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were called to East Cowes Esplanade earlier this morning but couldn’t locate the item due to the remote location and tidal conditions.
Now, a second object has been found on the beach at Seaview.
Investigations are underway to ascertain if the item could be ordnance with information passed onto the relevant authorities.
Coastguard Rescue Officers are now returning to East Cowes to further investigate the possible explosive item there, whilst also maintaining a presence at Seaview.
UPDATE @ 15:50 – Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts from Portsmouth have mobilised to Seaview to conduct further investigations on the suspected piece of ordnance.
UPDATE @ 16:33 – A controlled explosion has been carried out by the Royal Navy to safely eliminate the threat.
Safety cordons in the area have now been lifted and coastal resources are standing down from the incident.
The boom was heard from nearby villages including Bembridge.

Who reported it? Could it be the same person for both locations?.
Over seventy years have passed and millions of people have walked the area, yet these fossils are considered a threat.
Those Germans appear to be a threat even to this day, the war isn’t over yet.
Who says it’s German ordnance? Who says it’s even ww2? There’s plenty of modern stuff that has been lost in the last 20 years.
Doesn’t matter how long it’s been laying about, it could do damage.
I would seriously doubt it’s the same person reporting it. Why take a walk on a beach in seaview and in Cowes on the same day?
Well what ever it is it floats as it been left by the incoming tide you can seethe line of where the water was
looking at the picture I’d say not very long
