PICTURE GALLERY: Thousands of visitors headed to The Chale Show today (Saturday) on the first day of the weekend-long annual event, basking in the glorious summer sunshine on the South Wight coast.
The crowds were wowed by the Bolddog Lings FMX motocross team – the highlight of this year’s main arena entertainment – alongside the likes of Team Kinetix parkour; traction engine displays; children’s races; David Randini; Wight Falconry and the Wight Diamonds marching band.
Nearly 1600 exhibits were presented for the largest horticultural show on the Island, now in its 90th year, including flowers, vegetables and crafts.
Throughout the showground, located just outside of Chale on Military Road, was a display of Island vintage tractors, steam and military vehicles; a local farmer’s market; children’s creative activity and circus skills area and professional street entertainers, jugglers and circus performers.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were present with their smoke house, offering fire safety advice and giving show visitors the chance to get an idea of what it is like to be in a smoke-filled room. The Isle Drive Safe: Remember Evey charity were also at the show alongside a number of Island businesses and organisations.
Raising money for the Island’s Earl Mountbatten Hospice, the Sunflower live stage showcased a wide variety of the Island’s best bands and musicians.
The show continues tomorrow (Sunday) from 10:00-17:00. Adults are just £8, children under 16 go free.
