The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa had a lucky escape after rolling the vehicle onto its roof at Calbourne last night (Saturday).
Police were called to the scene on Middle Road, at the S-bends past Calbourne Water Mill, sometime around 22:00.
The dark blue Corsa came to a stop upside down in a hedge lining the carriageway. Police say that the driver escaped serious injury.
It’s been confirmed that the incident was not caused by drink or drugs, but there has been some suggestion that a wild animal may have run out into the road. Motorists are being reminded to drive according to the condition of the Island’s rural roads.
The vehicle remain in-situ but is due to be recovered from the scene later on today.
Last night’s crash was the second on Middle Road in 24 hours. Emergency services were called to a more serious collision near Betty Haunt Lane during the early hours of Saturday morning, as previously reported by Island Echo.

Wild animal? Probably that is the driver.
And here we go again, Learn to drive! No more excuses, no more faffing about, JUST learn to bloody drive!!!!
Very true, I was always taught to do an emergency stop in your current direction of travel, no extra inputs into the steering, don’t swerve! No idea if that is still the case. But I’ve had a few animals run out in front of me. Never ended up on my roof 😀 and ways messed the animal.
What’s it like being perfect .Do tell .
Wouldn’t know… BUT you can bet that all this weekends accidents were someone else’s fault! Just my opinion…
There appears to be a miniscule amount of damage to the verge (as much as we can see of it). The vehicle must have almost taken off.
– The accident was caused by the road bending.
Nothing to do with speed or not driving to the conditions then.
Maybe Islanders should start putting wheels on the roof that way wouldn’t matter when they flipped.
treat a car more dangerous than a loaded gun, a gun you got limited chance of hitting something without aiming it, or heat seeking technology. a car will kill everything in it’s path, so drive to your ability, the conditions of the road, the cars ability, and then a few mph less encase of an emergency. never just use the pedal on the right to get somewhere yesterday, and stuff everything else, that is why you are taught to drive safely. if all else fails remember to keep all 4 black round things on the ground. or catch a great big green thing.
