Former Isle of Wight Council leader Lora Jane Peacey-Wilcox is up against an Independent, Reform UK, the Greens and the Conservatives in the Isle of Wight Council elections.
Oscar Bicket (Conservatives), Joe Hall (Reform UK), Dan Jeffries-Revert (Green Party) and Rachel Shereen Thacker (Independent) are looking to replace the Alliance councillor as representative for Cowes Medina.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) asked nominees for 100-word pitches and photos, either directly or via groups or parties before the May 7 poll.
Oscar Bicket
Oscar Bicket grew up in Cowes and is standing for Cowes Medina. He runs the production arm of a media company and has been actively involved in politics on the Island for many years, including working for the Isle of Wight’s MP.
He is committed to ensuring Cowes Medina has a local champion, with a focus on protecting local businesses, keeping our roads open, and ensuring residents have affordable and reliable ferry services, both across the Solent and Medina.
Joe Hall
I have lived and worked in Cowes for over 25 years in the marine sector, working in local business and running events. Through both my professional experience and daily life on the Island, I understand its strengths and opportunities, as well as the challenges we face locally.
I am committed to working hard to support and improve our community.
Too often, council agendas feel disconnected from local priorities, and delivery is slow or ineffective, leaving residents to deal with the consequences.
I will work to ensure agendas are focused, relevant and deliver meaningful improvements for residents in the Cowes Medina ward.
Dan Jeffries-Revert
I am a teacher who moved down to the Island to start a family. I’m a young Dad with young children, and am deeply concerned about the state of the world. I want to do everything I can to make it better for my children; their growing up and their future.
Lora Jane Peacey-Wilcox (incumbent ward councillor)
These elections must focus on local concerns, not swayed by parliamentary preference! I have every sympathy with the current need for change but am not ruled by political parties, vying for control.
An independent candidate for Cowes Medina I am local, born and bred. Always ready to respond to relevant problems like parking, transport, dog fouling, waste services, housing, social care, all dealt with by our council.
A vote for me means I can fight for what the Island needs above all else. I have always worked closely with constituents addressing problems, and know how the council must work to fix it!
Rachel Shereen Thacker
I’ve heard the same complaints all my life, “voting is pointless”, “nobody represents me”. My reason for standing is to represent the majority opinion of the public, not myself or any party.
Too often political figures represent their own personal views or the views of the political party to which they are aligned. I want to represent you.
I moved to the Island in 2017 and studied Law in 2018. The legal system is fundamentally flawed so I chose to take a stand politically in order to facilitate change.
