Boston is the zero point of US history. It’s a contrasting city, where old cathedrals are neighbours with skyscrapers. It’s romantic, bohemian and has impregnated both European perfume and pure American spirit.
In this amazing city you can participate at one of the most famous marathons. The words “Boston Marathon” conjure up feelings and experiences that can’t quite be expressed with words for marathoners. The long route consisting of downhills and inclines passes through 8 cities and towns, starting in Hopkinton and ending on Boylston Street in Boston. Even though you’ll feel exhausted after finishing it, you can’t miss the variety of sightings that the running road offers you, and most importantly, you’ll train your body as well.
Boston Harbor
A great asset of the city is its favorable position on the Atlantic coast. Walk through the harbor and you won’t regret it. You have the opportunity to visit Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, a floating museum that tells of the famous conflict. In short, the British introduced taxes for tea imported from the American colony. That is why, in 1773, the Sons of Liberty, including Samuel Adams – a city hero in the independence movement – threw in the port of Boston, the cargo of tea from three English vessels. Thus, the Boston Tea Party became a key moment in the American Revolution.
Close enough to Boston, you can book a room at Encore Boston Harbor, which is a newly opened resort and casino, where you can find entertainment in playing games similar to Starburst slot, matching all the sparkling gems as much as you want. At every turn, welcoming hosts are dedicated to making your visit easy and enjoyable. The restaurant’s food is delicious, the hotel’s rooms are clean and modern, plus the amazing casino mentioned earlier, it all adds up to an exciting, memorable five-star experience unlike anywhere else in Boston.
The good news? Encore Boston Harbor Resort & Casino is completely new for the city of Boston. The resort was opened this summer in 2019. According to the resort’s website, the 33-acre development is considered the largest private and single-phased construction in the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The construction was done by Suffolk Construction Company and designed by Wynn Resorts. The bronze-toned glass tower has 27 floors and it 319 ft. tall.
Encore Boston Harbor Resort & Casino has up to 671 rooms and the building has a hotel and gaming area as well as a fire-star spa, meeting room and event space with a grand ballroom. The lobby features a sculpture of Popeye by artist Jeff Koons. The hotel part of Encore Boston Harbor is a main tower that has three types of accommodations, multi-room apartment suites, harborview suites that offers a panoramic view of the Boston skyline, and deluxe-like resort rooms.
Freedom Trail
This is a 4 km route that includes 16 significant places in the history of gaining US independence. It is marked on the pavement by a red line and various engravings in the case of stops, accompanied by banners with explanatory notes. At the Boston Commons tourist information center you will receive a free route map. Basically, all you have to do is follow the red line on the streets and enjoy the history of Boston!
The Freedom Trail starts at Boston Commons Park, the oldest public park in the US, and ends at the port, with the USS Constitution frigate, the world’s oldest still-running warship. Along the way you admire the cathedrals and the beautiful chapels, you get to the place where the Boston Massacre took place or you visit the home of Paul Revere, a convinced patriot and an emblem of the American Revolution.
On the same route you will reach the Granary Burying Ground, the cemetery where many heroes fallen during the American Revolution rest, including Samuel Adams, one of those who signed the Declaration of Independence. Today, the most famous beer in Boston is proudly named after the revolutionary man.
Faneuil Hall & Market
One of Boston’s liveliest areas is Faneuil Hall & Market, also known as Quincy Market. You will find plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, street dance, outdoor concerts and an extremely laid-back atmosphere. It is also a good place for those who want to go shopping.
In Boston you can buy Christmas globes all year long. Especially that Americans are obsessed with this holiday and are starting to buy gifts since the summer. The paradox is that between 1659 and 1681, Christmas was banned in Boston by English Puritans, stating that it was not a religious holiday in the true sense of the word. Now they probably want to recover the lost time!
Boston North End & Little Italy
This area of Boston, where you will arrive if you follow the Freedom Trail (because it’s close to Paul Revere’s house) seems extremely bohemian. Brick buildings with many fire stairs, next to which are Italian restaurants where you can taste pasta like in Umbria.
Public Garden
A refreshing break, a breath of fresh air, maybe a picnic. If you want to play with the squirrels or admire skyscrapers among green trees, stroll through Public Gardens. If the weather is nice, you can walk with the little boats shaped like swans.
Beacon Hill
An extremely beautiful area of Boston is Beacon Hill. Here you can clearly see the European influence, making you forget that you are actually in the USA. It’s a glamorous residential area, with brick, clean, and quiet buildings. The most beautiful street in Beacon Hill is Acorn Street. It’ll probably take a while until you find it, but believe me it’s worth it.
This is Boston. If you look to the left, you will see brick buildings and gothic cathedrals, and if you look to the right you will see skyscrapers, shady and cool streets, gray passageways and underground garages that make you feel definitely on the territory of the US.
