Despite concerns about a possible increase in anti-social behaviour, Landguard Holiday Park in Shanklin has been given permission to extend the hours it can sell alcohol.
Today (Friday), the Isle of Wight Council’s licensing committee agreed changes to the Parkdean Resort’s licence also allowing alcohol sold in bars, restaurants and the on-site shop to be consumed elsewhere.
It can also now be sold between 10:00 – 2 hours earlier than before – and 00:00.
At the meeting today, a Parkdean representative said the change would allow guests to take drinks back to their caravan, adding there are already shops selling alcohol nearby. The application was described as a chance to ‘tidy up’ an old licence.
Residents fear an increase in noise and trouble, arguing lives have already been impacted by noise disturbance and anti-social behaviour. One neighbour said they ‘dread’ when the park reopens each year.
In a comment sent to the Isle of Wight Council, the resident said it would encourage later drinking and mean holidaymakers walking the streets in a drunken state. However, County Hall’s environmental health experts said there has been no noise complaint since 2016 and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was last called to an incident of anti-social behaviour in 2019.
Parkdean’s spokesperson said today’s changes will make the conditions clear and transparent for everyone, adding some of the things being requested are already allowed anyway. The park could put up signs to ask customers to be quiet, the holiday firm said.
Entertainment can also now start at 10:00 and run until 00:00. Meanwhile late night refreshments can be sold between 23:00 and 00:00.

Wow. 500 The Sun readers all drinking until midnight, sounds like a plan.
No entertainment ’til 10p.m.?
Late night refreshments? Never heard it called that before.
I worked at Lower Hyde and Languard last season, this statement from the police is absolute BS, I can assure you we had multiple police visits for anti social behabiour (& much more!) “Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was last called to an incident of anti-social behaviour in 2019” …so either we got some porky pies going on, or someone is keeping check of the paper work…
Although we all know it’s likely brown envelopes
Fantastic! That’ll set me up just right for shouting, swearing and singing as I stagger home. Spot on!
Will soon be a non family friendly Park. Having stayed, there is a problem with alcohol related anti- social behaviour keeping other residents awake and children frightened. Guess we wait to see what happens in next 6mths .
Yeah great idea more drunk idiots falling about all over our streets more drinking and driving more rubbish slung everywhere increased noise all to make park dean more money licensing laws on this island is a joke ! Granted so they done upset the big boys
it sounds like a back hander has been paid to one of the council workers
So, come on everybody complaining, what’s the difference between Languard selling alcohol early in the day and any High Street pub?
Yes, I admit it’s too early for me but it doesn’t seem to stop tourists and locals in, for instance, Wetherspoons etc. If it’s ok for a pub in the High Street it must surely be equally ok in what is essentially a holiday centre?
Well Catherine live by the park and you will find out ! Full of drunks causing trouble
