Bomb disposal experts have been in attendance in Bembridge this morning (Sunday) following the discovery of 2 pieces of suspected ordnance on the beach.
The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Portsmouth travelled across the Solent early this morning to attend Forelands Beach.
A member of the public had discovered something in the sand around half way between Forelands and Whitecliff Bay yesterday evening, prompting them to get in touch with the Coastguard.
Photographs sent over to the Royal Navy caused enough concern to mobilise the EOD experts at first light.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team rendezvoused with the bomb disposal team at around 08:00 and led them to the discovery.

Following a thorough inspection, the first object has now been declared safe with the military personnel believing it to be a rock.
The second object, photographed below, is thought to be a piece of ordnance and has been removed from the area.
The incident has been brought to a close.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Surely they could train for half a day ONE person with a brain to check out rapidly any reports of such before calling out the A team?
I would be willing to do the job for £200 retainer, cash in hand.
It’s easier than that… Photos are sent, and EOD task themselves If they consider it to be a risk..
i would not have spotted that in a month of Sundays, and if by some miracle i did, i`d leave it alone for the next tide to take it away.
