31-year-old Kwaku Achampong is to appear before the Crown Court next month charged with blackmail following an investigation by detectives here on the Isle of Wight.
Achampong, of Chantry Road in Wakefield, was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of conspiracy to blackmail. The arrest, made on the Island, came 4 days after an allegation of blackmail was made to the Police.
As exclusively revealed by Island Echo, Police were last week making enquiries in the sleepy village of Bembridge.
Kwaku was charged and remanded in custody to appear before Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Due to the seriousness of the offence, which is indictable only, Magistrates sent the case to the Isle of Wight Crown Court where Kwaku Achampong will appear on 17th December.
He has been remanded in custody.

“The sleepy village of Bembridge” ? ??….we think not !. Didn’t we have to endure weeks of reports about a local issue concerning a property in the ‘village’ where grown adults could not conduct a sensible debate to resolve the issue, without getting their eccentric points of view across ?. Typical Island attention-seeking I’m afraid…..
Old Bill,
i that I think was not so much a case of attention seeking, more a case of many in Bembridge are wealthy, have retired early, and are bored. Having been used to having power in their workplace, to suddenly only have the humble gardener, or the daily cleaner to order about, they become involved in local council.
Being of the same ilk, neither side are prepared to ‘give’, and common sense leaves as it all then becomes ‘personal’
Trust me, I KNOW.
