A West Yorkshire man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to blackmail as part of a Police investigation launched in Bembridge earlier this week.
It was on Monday (8th November) that Police received an allegation of blackmail, prompting a criminal investigation to be launched.
Officers have been conducting enquiries in the village throughout the week, collating CCTV images and conducting door-to-door enquiries.
Now, it has been confirmed that a 31-year-old man from West Yorkshire has been detained here on the Isle of Wight and is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to blackmail.
He was arrested yesterday (Thursday) and remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
What is Blackmail?
Blackmail is the making of an unwarranted demand with menaces with a view to gain. In short, demanding money or another benefit from a person or business in return for not revealing compromising or damaging information about them.
The offence of blackmail is so serious it can only be dealt with by the Crown Court.

West Yorkshire is the best place for such like him !
An awful crime. Needs to be jailed for a long time to prevent others trying the same stunt.
I’m from West Yorkshire. It’s a great place to be!
Did someone blackmail you to post that?!
