A warning for icy conditions across the Isle of Wight has been issued by local weather forecasters today (Friday).
Showers of rain and sleet throughout this evening will leave behind localised wet roads and puddles which are at risk of turning to ice as temperatures drop close to, or slightly below, freezing.
Ice and invisible Black Ice is most likely to develop in sheltered rural parts although anywhere away from windward coasts may still see the odd icy patch.
Extra care should be taken, especially on untreated roads and pavements.
The warning is in force from 20:00 tonight until 11:00 on Saturday morning. However, Islanders are being told that the risk of icy patches may continue beyond the warning period over the highest hills such as Ventnor Down and St Catherine’s Down.
