Bembridge RNLI was last night (Tuesday) tasked by Solent Coastguard to check whether a single handed 36ft yacht that had run aground on Ryde Sands required assistance.
The All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) had launched on pre-planned training at around 19:00, so quickly located the vessel by 19:10. The on-board Y boat was then deployed to find out whether the skipper was OK and whether he wanted to risk being towed off or would wait for tide to come in.
Having confirmed that he the skipper was uninjured and happy to wait for the tide, the Alfred Albert Williams ALB continued on with her planned training.
