BEDS AND BORDERS BLOOMING AT RYDE THANKS TO PLANT DONATION

The new raised beds and borders at Ryde Interchange are donning their summer best with flowering plants and shrubs. Islandwide Grounds Maintenance worked hard to kick weeds to the curb before planting almost 800 cosmos bedding plants, kindly donated by John O’Conner Grounds Maintenance. The collaborative approach by Ryde Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council ensures visitors are greeted with well-maintained, colourful flower beds, enhancing the overall image of Ryde. The work involved rotavating the soil and scattering wood chippings to suppress the regrowth of unsightly weeds. This generous donation of vibrant cosmos plants transformed previously barren patches into bursts of colour to improve the aesthetic and ecological health of the interchange. It’s been a busy time for council grounds teams who have added more than 36,580 summer blooms to floral displays across the Island, including Rylstone Gardens in Shanklin, Appley Park at Ryde, the spectacular Cascades on Ventnor seafront and the award-winning Ventnor Park. The council sources, plants, and maintains the flowers on behalf of several local town and parish councils who fund the Summer bedding schemes.
