A man who suffered a suspected broken arm and a concussion after a fall on Ryde beach was one of the first shouts for the town’s lifeguards yesterday (Friday).
Ryde’s lifeguards have once again returned to the sands after their presence on the beach last year was hailed as a great success. The lifeguarding team had only been back on duty for 36 hours before attending their first incident of the season.
This year, Ryde beach lifeguards will also be on patrol on Sandown beach after an offer was made to assist the Town Council there with beach safety. It comes as the RNLI is unable to provide a lifeguarding service for the thousands of people heading to Sandown’s sandy beaches this year.
Lifeguards will be on duty between 11:00 and 18:00 each day over the summer until the 31st August, and the team are urging those using the beaches to help ensure their own safety by following guidance.
Beach users and swimmers are also reminded to swim between the red and yellow flags in both towns, and for those in Ryde to avoid swimming near to the harbour due to the tide and currents.

Great to hear they are back. Worth their weight in gold, and some.
