There was cause for celebration at Angel Radio Isle of Wight on Saturday (24th March) as the community radio station marked 11 years since commencing full time FM broadcasts.
Angel Radio began life on the Island in 1999, broadcasting from rooms above Age Concern’s offices in Pyle Street. At that time they were broadcasting on Restricted Service Licences (RSLs) which allowed for 2x 28-day slots per year.
In 2001 they began broadcasting on the Wight Cable network (now WightFibre) and moved into their premises at Love Lane, Cowes. It was in 2007 that Ofcom granted a community licence and the station began broadcasting on FM full time.
Bev Webster, Director and Programme Controller for Angel Radio, has said:
“Due almost entirely to the generosity of our lovely listeners’ donations we have been able to stay on air, on Wight Fibre and on the internet for 11 years”.
Angel Radio, which plays music from 1900-1969, is available on 91.50FM, WightFibre and the internet at www.angelradioisleofwight.com.
