The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are assisting colleagues from the ambulance service in moving an injured patient from the 1st floor of a property in Ryde this morning (Sunday).
1 appliance from Ryde and an aerial ladder platform (ALP) from Newport are on scene at Monkton Street, where a woman in her 80s has sustained an injury at home.
Firefighters have removed a glass pane and are now using the ALP to take the patient out through the front window.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service requested the assistance of fire crews at just gone 07:00 after it was discovered that the stairs in the property were too narrow to safely stretcher the injured woman to the awaiting ambulance.
Monkton Street is currently closed at the junction with Park Road, from Rink Road to StJohn’s Road. Motorists are being diverted locally, with Southern Vectis buses diverting via Bennet Street until further notice.
UPDATE @ 08:40 – Monkton Street has now re-opened in both directions.
The patient has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport,
