A man from Ryde has been charged with drink driving following an incident that occurred on the outskirts of Newport last night (Monday).
The incident occurred at around 19:30 on Gunville Road.
Police attended the scene after reports were made that a Volkswagen had collided with another and failed to stop.
The driver of the vehicle was found to be Tristan Nicholls, 37, of Oak Vale who has been released on bail to attend Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 3rd January.
Nicholls is the latest drunk driver to be charged on the Island in the last few days following the arrest and charge of a man from Niton who crashed his Volkswagen van on Sunday.
Just amazing that anyone can afford to drink alcohol or afford to drive these days.
Not as amazing as the Island Echo reporting an accident that didn’t involve an ‘elderly’ driver………perhaps it was on old car.

It’s tiresome reading about drink (and drug) drivers every day. When the breathlyser was introduced, drunk driving was THE offence nobody wanted to commit, let alone be caught for. The fines were significant, starting at around £250 – £1800 in today’s value. People lost their licence, their social life, and often, their friends. Now it seems to be considered a minor offence, even though there is far more potential to cause harm with the number of cars on the road. Times change, and not always for the better.
Agreed entirely. The fine should now be £2000 minimum, a 2 year ban and a 5 year suspended prison sentence for drink and drug driving. End of.
They risk killing innocent people every time they do it. Their pictures should be published too.

I would have all vehicles Towed away who make it UNSAFE for pedestrians
to walk along safely down island roads.

I hope this moron gets his licence taken away. Nothing more than he deserves. I have no sympathy for drink/drug drivers. Dig a big hole and bury the lot of ’em. Get these imbiciles off the public roads.
How is it that only ones getting caught are after accidents, shows how probably many others are getting away. Why are publican’s/ members of public not able to and anonymously report?
The Government really does need to bring back National Service and give these individuals a purpose in life.
