Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating the deaths of 2 sheep in a field near Carisbrooke Castle, with enquiries suggesting a dog may be responsible.
The incident is said to have occurred sometime between 22:00 on Thursday and 15:00 on Friday afternoon.
It has been confirmed that 2 sheep died of shock and a third was injured.
Officers are reminding Islanders that although it is not illegal to have a dog off a lead near livestock, it is illegal to not have them under close control. Livestock worrying is a criminal offence and comes under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953. ‘Worrying’ is where a dog attacks or chases livestock causing injury or suffering.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44190118167.

What laws and regulations cover ‘livestock worrying’ by artificially reintroduced huge sea eagles?

That was a genuine question. You only have to Google Scottish crofters to see what appalling damage they can do to livestock.
